Do you want to be a Licensed Professional Counselor [LPC]? Do you want to be a School Counselor? Do you want to be both? Our CACREP-accredited MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program will help you prepare for the LPC licensure process, and our Integrated Ed.S. in School Counseling program will prepare you to work as a School Counselor. If you are called to both, you can complete the MA and Integrated Ed.S. degrees in as little as 4 years. Regardless of the path you choose, you will experience a cohort-based, experiential model of education with faculty who have practical experience as clinicians. You will get real-world experience by participating in practicums and internships in on-campus and local community organizations, agencies, and schools. You will graduate ready to launch a career as a professional counselor, school counselor, or both.

The M.Ed. in School Counseling program is integrated into our current Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, which means that Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling students will take many of the same courses together. Our focus is on training excellent clinicians, whether in the clinical or school setting.

Our students learn about the ethical standards of the counseling profession and the American Counseling Association. Mentors encourage and guide students in the formation of their professional counselor identity, nurturing innate gifts and strengths, while cultivating new skills and the capacity to hold the complexities of the human experience. Ethics workshops are offered during the continuing education series each spring.
Program Features
The Master of Arts in Counseling program is a 60 semester hour, CACREP-accredited Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, designed for men and women with busy lives. Our students are working individuals who need to balance work or family while returning to school. Some commute from Roanoke, Winchester, Charlottesville, and Washington D.C. to participate in our program’s cohort model and experiential training. The two-day back-to-back course schedule (usually Tuesday/Wednesday or Wednesday/Thursday) during the academic year is designed to accommodate even the busiest schedule.
