Data Protection

A file cannot be restored unless it is backed up. Files save to EMU network drives are backed up. Information systems cannot back up files saved on your desktop or laptop computer. Hard drives and USB flash drives can and do fail. Cloud storage may be used in accordance with information systems policy. We strongly recommend saving files on network drives whenever possible. If you do have important files that you do not save to the network, be sure to keep copies on more than one storage device.

Make sure that you do not leave documents on the network open, as open files cannot be backed up. You may want to logout or turn off your computer every night. If you need to use files during the backup times listed below and you are concerned about not having a backup, keep copies of those files on your computer and at least one additional external storage medium.
