Establish IT governance to assist with developing vision for IT at EMU. GoalsThis objective will be achieved when we have selected a group of faculty, staff, and possibly students who can advise IS leadership on how technology-related decisions and policies can achieve the best outcomes for EMU. Actual OutcomeWhile there are parts of this vision yet to be realized, a significant milestone was the establishment of a software task force that convenes to evaluate whether EMU should purchase software and technology services that have been requested. |

The account lifecycle for employees and students has been complicated and individualized for various groups. It needs to be standardized and based on data. There needs to be a clear reason when an employee receives an account and when it is deactivated. GoalsOff-boarding of faculty will be data-driven and require less manual intervention. Actual OutcomeThis has been achieved through the concept of a "Faculty Account Disable Date" which has proven successful. |

The current VM hardware was no longer supported and the storage throughput was insufficient. GoalsThe hardware supporting virtual servers and storage is aging and no longer supported by the manufacturer. New hardware is needed, and the storage hardware needs to address deficiencies in speed, which causes problems for end users. Actual OutcomeThe compute and storage hardware was upgraded and the user issues were resolved by the nearly tenfold increase in data throughput. |

The current system for guest and entertainment systems connecting to the network is not user friendly. The Helpdesk fields a lot of questions related to this issue. GoalsCampus guests will be able to self-register for network access. We will have a way to connect devices that do not support enterprise authentication used on EMU wireless. Actual OutcomeWe developed a web application integrated with our wireless authentication server and text message notification service to implement a guest registration system. We created a new wireless SSID and web-based device registration to accommodate game consoles, TVs and other such devices. |

Implementing Multi-Factor Authentication will provide more protection to EMU data. GoalsAll services that are authenticated using the EMU login will require not only a password but a second authentication token, such as a one-time code or a biometric factor. Actual OutcomeWe had significant difficulty working with the vendor to resolve a licensing issue that prevented our use of the platform that provides this capability. We now have the capability to roll out the feature and are currently resolving some minor details before we begin making it available more widely. |

The current firewall has insufficient throughput and up to date security technology. GoalsThe old network firewall, a critical security component, is limited in its ability to detect threats that modern firewalls are able to. A new firewall should be installed which can detect new threats based on frequent updates to a database of threat identifying characteristics. Actual OutcomeThe firewall was successfully upgraded. | ||||

Personal devices used to access EMU resources need to meet security standards to protect EMU's data. GoalsThis outcome involves more specific language in Information Systems policies and procedures to address the use of personal (not managed by EMU) devices when they are used to access data that belongs to EMU. Actual OutcomeRevision of the Information Systems policies has begun but is not completed. |
