Aviation

Flight Education Program Certification by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) shows how the provider meets the academic and regulatory requirements of the Federal Aviation Regulations. The criteria approved by the FAA include curriculum content, training facilities, training equipment, and instructor qualifications. To meet the curriculum requirements for the FAA, standards have been established for each flight certificate offered by EMU.  These standards must be met before the students can be eligible to take FAA Oral/Practical tests, also known as check rides. Flight fees are assessed at hourly rates and are reviewed for possible adjustment at least annually. Prices do not include costs of FAA Knowledge test fees and check ride examiner fees. These costs are paid directly to individuals or companies that are independent of EMU. To make flight training more accessible, flight fees are charged to the student by EMU, enabling the student to apply for grants and loans on this significant portion of their program expenses. EMU is then invoiced by the flight training provider, Aero-Tech Services, Inc., for these flight fees

This training leads to examination for federal licensing as a Pilot or Flight Instructor. This license is required by the FAA to fly all U.S. registered aircraft.

EMU's Bachelor of Science in Leadership and Organizational Management with Aviation Concentration program is certified by the Federal Aviation Administration as an Aviation Science under 14 CFR Part 141.

The Program meets requirements and qualifies graduates to sit for licensure exam in all 50 states.

Counseling

EMU's clinical mental health counseling program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Students graduating with a CACREP-accredited degree can more often easily achieve state counseling licensure and experience greater ease of license portability between state licensing boards.

Aviation

Flight Education Program Certification by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) shows how the provider meets the academic and regulatory requirements of the Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR). The criteria approved by the FAA includes curriculum content, training facilities, training equipment, and instructor qualifications. To meet the curriculum requirements for the FAA they have set standards for each flight certificate offered by ECSU.  These standards must be met before the students can be eligible to take the FAA practical test also known as check ride. Fees are assessed as flat rate and are based on fuel and maintenance cost and are subject to change at any time. Prices do not include costs of FAA check ride examiner fee, knowledge test fee, and flight materials (headset, navigational charts, flight kits etc.).   These costs are paid directly to individuals or companies that are independent of ECSU.  To keep flight training costs as low as possible, ECSU does not charge students for flight and ground instruction. Students receive flight training at cost, paying only for operating and maintenance cost of the aircraft.

Social Work

The BSW program at Eastern Mennonite University has been continuously accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) since 1975. In Virginia and many other states, students graduating with a BSW from an accredited program have completed the academic requirements necessary for taking the bachelor licensure exam. Licensure requirements vary by state and most jurisdictions require you to establish your eligibility before you register to take the test.  Most states require a period of up to 2 years post-graduation full-time employment in a qualified position with registered clinical supervision to achieve eligibility to sit for the licensure exam. In Virginia, bachelors level social workers qualify for the exam  that leads to the Associate Social Worker license, in other states a similar credential may be called Licensed Social Worker (LSW).  Some states and territories do not offer bachelors licensure, and therefore Eastern Mennonite University has determined that the BSW curriculum does not lead to licensure in these states and territories: CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, NH, NY, PA, RI, VT, WA.

For more information on a state-by-state basis, see Social Work Education Requirements by State.
