Competence for social work practice is developmental and dynamic. Student abilities grow and change over time through a continuous learning process that builds with each course in the curriculum, each community engagement opportunity, and culminates with the senior social work practicum placement. Indeed, competence for social work practice does not stop with graduation from the program, it needs continual development throughout a lifetime career in social work.

This section details the nine core competencies as described by the CSWE Commission on Accreditation in their 2015 Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (p. 7-9).
