EMU's clinical mental health counseling program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Students graduating with a CACREP-accredited degree can more often easily achieve state counseling licensure and experience greater ease of license portability between state licensing boards.EMU’s new school counseling program (beginning Fall 2021) has met the standards and competencies for the Virginia Department of Education and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

Teacher Education
The teacher education programs at EMU are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) for the preparation of elementary and secondary school teachers. The teacher education programs prepare students for licensure as educators and are designed to meet the standards set by the Virginia Department of Education. Additionally, certification programs offered at EMU Lancaster (PA) are designed to meet the standards set by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
