If you have a computer, tablet, phone, or similar device

  1. Connect to the wireless network EMU-Guest (your device should do this automatically).

  2. Try to browse to any web site.  Your device will display the following page. (Your device may do this automatically).

  3. Click Student and Employee Access.
  4. Click the JoinNow button to download the EMU network configuration utility on your device.

  5. Run the installer. Enter your username and password when prompted.  You may be asked more than once.

  6. Now you should be connected to the EMU wireless network.

If you have an Android device

  1. Select EMU WiFi
  2. EAP method should be changed to PEAP, if it isn't already

  3. Phase 2 authentication needs to be changed to MSCHAPV2

  4. CA certificate should be "Use system certificates" if it is an option (it is more secure), otherwise use "(Unspecified)" or "Do not validate"

  5. If "Use system certificates" is selected, the domain needs to be set to: "dad.emu.edu", and the identity is your username.

If you have a ChromeBook

  1. Select EMU WiFi
  2. EAP method should be changed to PEAP
  3. Phase 2 authentication needs to be changed to MSCHAPV2
  4. CA certificate should be Default, or Do not validate if Default is not an option

If you have an Apple device

  1. Select EMU WiFi
  2. Sign in with your credentials
  3. Trust the certificate

If you have a smart TV, gaming device, Roku, or other similar device

  1. First connect your computer or phone.  You need to have this device connected first.

  2. Now you need to find the MAC address of your device.  If you don't know how to find this, try Googling "MAC address" and the name of your device. The MAC address may also be referred to as Hardware Address, Physical Address, Ethernet Address, or Wired Address.  It will be a 12 digit combination of numbers and letters such as 00:3c:ec:29:9a:44 or 00-f0-cc-90-15-aa.

  3. There may be more than one MAC address depending on whether the device is capable of both wired and wireless access.  Choose the MAC address for the type of connectivity you wish to use.

  4. Once you have the MAC address, you need to log in to the registration page at https://appsrv3.emu.edu/is/register-device/ and enter the MAC address.  Please be aware that you will be held responsible for all activity on this device.  If the device is used in a way that violates EMU policies, even if by someone else without your permission, it is still your responsibility.

  5. After the MAC address of your device is registered, you can gain network access through it in two ways:
    1. By obtaining the key for the wireless SSID EMU-iot.  The key will change at the beginning of every semester and is available when you log into my.emu.edu.
    2. By plugging it into the ethernet port in your room.  Most residence hall rooms have three network ports on the wall.  The live one is usually the left port of the double port module. If more than one live port is needed, contact the Helpdesk.

To connect a computer (NOT a TV, gaming device, etc.) to a wired ethernet port

  1. Note: EMU discourages the use of wired ports for devices that are capable of wireless connectivity.
  2. On Windows, you need to first open Windows Services and enable and start a Windows service called Wired Autoconfig.  Set it to Automatic start.
  3. In the properties of your Ethernet adapter there will now be an Authentication tab.  Click the Authentication tab, then click Settings.
  4. Uncheck the box "Verify the server's identity by validating the certificate"
  5. Plug your Ethernet port into the wall jack. Your computer should prompt you to log in.  Enter your Royals username and password.
  6. If you need help with these steps call the Helpdesk at 540-432-4357
