A lecture-based survey of U.S. history that highlights major events in Virginia history and politics, the American Revolution, the development of the U.S. and Virginia Constitutions, and the role of religion and culture, while providing a general overview of how the U.S. became a nation-state. Topics include: the creation and tragedy of race-based slavery, the emergence of a capitalist economy, the battle for women's rights, and the impact of immigration and urbanization.
