Music majors are strongly encouraged to take CMUS 250 Music History I and CMUS 260 Music History II in sequential order.

Interdisciplinary Studies Track

Required courses for the interdisciplinary studies track in music include the core courses listed above plus the following (must be passed with a grade of C or better):

  • CMUS 201 Topics: World Music - 2 
  • Music elective courses - 4
  • Three upper level courses from another university department, chosen in consultation with advisor - 6-9
  • MUPS 491 Senior Project - 3 

Performance Track

Performance track students must complete requirements for admission into the major.

Required courses for the performance track in music include the core courses listed above plus the following (must be passed with a grade of C or better):

  • *CMUS 412 The Compleat Musician - 4 
  • MUPS Private studies, an additional 5 SH, for a total of - 12 (Private studies in the major area will be registered for 2 SH each semester after admission to the performance concentration.)
  • *MUED 412, 413, OR 415 Pedagogy in the performance area - 2 
  • MUES 333 Chamber Ensemble (two semesters) - 1 + 1 
  • MUPS 390 Junior Recital - 1 
  • MUPS 490 Senior Recital Project - 3 
  • Piano Proficiency class is required until piano proficiency is met.

Musical Theater Track

Required courses for the musical theater track in music include the core courses listed above plus the following (must be passed with a grade of C or better.)

Students select 4 SH music courses that align with their interests. May include:

  • CMUS 202 Folk-Rock to Hip-Hop - 2 
  • CMUS 203 Listening to Film - 2 
  • CMUS 204 Introduction to Music Technology - 2 
  • CMUS 201 World Music - 2 
  • THR 200 Survey of World Theater History - 2 
  • Select 3 SH from THR 281, 350, 351, 352, and/or 353 Theater Practicum

Select two courses (4 SH) from the following:

  • THR 100 Acting for the Stage and Screen - 2 
  • THR 210 Technical Theater - 2 
  • THR 230-235 Theater Topics - 2 
  • THR 300 Directing for the Theater - 2
