Requesting Services from Marketing and Communication

EMU's marketing and communication office would like to help you with your event if it fits within our parameters and time. Our primary mandate is enrollment and advancement. however, we also want to promote EMU in general as much as we are able. 

Marketing and Communication office can provide

  • A preview article and/or a follow-up article
  • photography
  • a webpage or webpages
  • ideas for social media posts
  • poster and brochure design
  • graphic/logo design (work FAR ahead for this)

Tips for working with Marketing Services

  1. Plan ahead- The further ahead you plan, the more likely you are to get what you request. Mia created a helpful timeline with deadlines. Use it. 
  2. Respect the expertise of the marketing department. We are experts in our field. We know what is news, what makes a good photo, how a webpage should be formatted and whether a particular marketing piece is a good use of time/resources. 
  3. Have as much information for the 5W's ready as you can. Balance this with "plan ahead." 
  4. Use the request forms on the marketing website
  5. Wondering if you'll be charged? Have a conversation with us. You will very likely be charged for printing costs. Other services are somewhat dependent on audience, time and staffing. 

Website/webpage

  • The more simple the event, the more simple the page. 
  • ALWAYS have a plan for distributing the webpage. A page itself will not get people to your conference. 
  • Think a little bit about where it will live on the website. See below for examples. 

One day- single event with uncomplicated registration options

  • Put information on a department page. To do this work with your departments web editor and/or Laura
  • Or use 25Live calendar and permalink. The advantage of this is the you have complete control to change as much as often as you want. 
  • You can create a link on your department page using a permalink.

One or two day multiple session event (RJE Conference, CJP Community Day)

  • Really need the 5 Ws for web page. 
  • Probably want a single webpage. Most likely connected to your department pages. 
  • Think about the URL- the webpage title. Think SHORT and consider search engine results. 
  • Think about where to link the page.

Multi-Day event (School for Leadership Training, Women's Conference)

  • We will probably want multiple webpages to help people find all the information
  • Probably linked from emu.edu/conferences
  • To start we will need everything in the "one or two day" list above.
  • We will also need: 
    • Speaker bios
    • A detailed schedule (can be tentative if necessary)
    • Workshop, plenary, panel descriptions (especially if people are going to be choosing between them for registration)
    • Registration information ASAP (or at least a 'registration will open by' date)
