The Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) academic programs listed below are designed to prepare students for a career in a licensed profession upon completion of the program. A professional license is typically required for graduates of these programs to practice and/or gain employment in these fields. If you are considering applying to one of these programs and plan to be licensed outside of Virginia, please select the program link for more information regarding educational requirements for professional licensure in the U.S. states, commonwealths, and territories.

Aviation

Flight Education Program Certification by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) shows how the provider meets the academic and regulatory requirements of the Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR). The criteria approved by the FAA includes curriculum content, training facilities, training equipment, and instructor qualifications. To meet the curriculum requirements for the FAA they have set standards for each flight certificate offered by ECSU.  These standards must be met before the students can be eligible to take the FAA practical test also known as check ride. Fees are assessed as flat rate and are based on fuel and maintenance cost and are subject to change at any time. Prices do not include costs of FAA check ride examiner fee, knowledge test fee, and flight materials (headset, navigational charts, flight kits etc.).   These costs are paid directly to individuals or companies that are independent of ECSU.  To keep flight training costs as low as possible, ECSU does not charge students for flight and ground instruction. Students receive flight training at cost, paying only for operating and maintenance cost of the aircraft.

This training leads to examination for federal licensing as a pilot, navigators, airport managers, avionics technicians, flight instructors and customer service representatives, just to name a few. This license is required by the FAA to work on all U.S. registered aircraft.

EMU's Bachelor's of Science in Leaderships and Organizational Management with Aviation Concentration program is certified by the Federal Aviation Administration as an Aviation Science (FAA Part 141).

The Program meets requirements and qualifies graduates to sit for licensure exam in all 50 states.
