Life Insurance is provided through Reliance Standard Life. Eligible employees will be provided with life insurance coverage equal to 1½ times their current annual salary up to $150,000 maximum. It is considered a taxable benefit for the amount of life insurance over $50,000. Accidental death or dismemberment coverage is also provided under this policy. The policy expires upon termination of employment or retirement, whichever is first to occur. The premium cost is paid entirely by EMU.

Short-term disability benefits are paid from the general assets of Eastern Mennonite University. In the event of total or partial disability, as defined by a physician, an employee will receive all use accumulated paid time off (PTO). After 15 calendar days of disability, the employee will receive compensation equal to 2/3rd of salary (offset by any social security disability and wages earned). NOTE: Faculty do not receive accumulated PTO, however, they are paid in full for the first 30 days of illness or disability.
