Appendix J - DEA CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES

Controlled substances are regulated under the Controlled Substances ACT of the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970.
 

1. Controlled substances are listed in schedules I-V. Schedules and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) regulations are available at the US Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration website.
2. A license is required to use controlled substances.
3. Periodic inventories are required.
4. Disposal of regulated substances is regulated and is best managed by using a buy back arrangement with companies such as Pharmalink Inc., a national pharmaceutical returns and disposal company.
