D. Special Alarms, Detection Devices, and Emergency Equipment
- Installation of alarms or detection devices designed to alert personnel to the presence of a hazard condition must be approved by the CHO.
- Alarms and detection devices will be tested prior to initial use and annually thereafter if used continuously by the laboratory professor or laboratory instructor.
- First aid supplies will be inspected and refilled as necessary by the Chemical Hygiene Officer during the monthly inspection (see Section IX, Part B.) Use of the First Aid Kit is for very minor injuries such as scratches and for covering skin abrasions for protection while traveling to the EMU Health Services Department. Blood spills need to be cleaned up with a 10 % solution of bleach in water by persons who have had blood borne pathogen training. All injuries other than a minor scratch should be seen by EMU Health Services.
