Field Instructor Roles and Responsibilities
The program expects that field instructors will follow through with these roles and responsibilities:
- The Field Instructor needs to be willing to create a supportive working environment where learning is encouraged and facilitated.
- The Field Instructor should secure provision for informal day-to-day supervision if it is not provided directly by the instructor so that there is an agreed upon person(s) available to the student at all times for clarification or assistance if needed.
- The Field Instructor schedules weekly formal supervision where the student and instructor process practicum experiences in the context of the agency setting, mission and goals.
- The Field Instructor evokes "best practice" as a professional role model.
- The agency instructor agrees to complete required EMU and student assessment paperwork in a timely and thoughtful manner.
- The Field Instructor is willing to incorporate the practicum student as a full member of the agency team and provide opportunities similar to the roles of a newly hired agency social worker.
